I was a late convert to poetry, having been put off it, like so many people, at school. I have many friends who are excellent poets and whose work I admire tremendously. In writing workshop situations I often feel like a second class citizen being a prose writer but I do try to write poetry occasionally because I find it difficult and therefore it's good for me.
